The Flowers Are Beautiful…But

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. I hope that you are ready and have something really special planned for that special someone in your life.

Valentines is a day which is centered around giving. All the traditional gifts are on display wherever you go. Valentine cards, chocolates in heart shaped boxes, plush and cuddly teddy bears, red roses and flowers of every kind and jewelry along with a wide assortment of other gifts line the shelves of retailers around the world. All of those are wonderful to give and to receive, but don’t forget to give the most important thing.

The gift of yourself! Don’t get caught up in just what seems to be obligatory giving, as often seems the case. Make the time to share your life with those you love and with those who love you. Your mom will think the flowers are beautiful… but a phone call or a visit telling her how much you love her and sharing the latest happenings in your life will be treasured long after the flowers have lost their beauty and been tossed.

This is equally true of others in your life. Dads, siblings, close friends and of course that special lady or man will appreciate the most precious gift you can give them. That of your time and yourself.

Jesus gave his life for those he loved. Shouldn’t we at least give our time?
